We’ve been waiting 13 years for Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) to release another studio album, and SYRO is finally here. The cover artwork (by long-time Warp Records collaborators The Designers Republic) is, more or less, a giant receipt. Printed on the packaging is a list that itemises all the expenses that went into making the album, all expressed as the cost per disc or record. (We’re talking fractions of pounds here.) It all folds out to expose six pages of over 250 items, throwing a spotlight on how many absurd expenses go into a project like this. The music business, everybody.
